I was watching music videos on CMT today and caught a couple that I think are worth seeing if you happen to come across them. The two videos are actually night and day as far as subject matter and style go, but both had me paying attention for different reasons.
The first video was for the song “Stay” by now country duo Sugarland. What grabbed my attention immediately about this video is Jennifer Nettles’ incredibly strong, powerful voice accompanied only by Kristian Bush on the acoustic guitar. It is by all standards an extremely simple video. Just Nettles and Bush. A black background. Her voice and his guitar. And that was it. But, the emotion in it through her talented voice and facial expressions accentuating the meaning of the words she is singing makes the video powerful and beautiful.
The other video kept me watching because it made me laugh. Craig Morgan has a new song and video out called “International Harvester.” If you listen to the lyrics, both the video and the song are incredibly funny and clever. On occasion, I am always the one to get caught on U.S. 17 N. toward New Bern right behind one of those huge farm tractors that take up the whole right side of the road. And, of course, it’s still a two-lane road for now. So, you have to wait for an opportune time to pass, which may take a while depending upon the time of day. Morgan’s song is about being the driver of one of those combines with angry drivers honking and cussing at you in a long line of cars behind you. It’s pretty entertaining and has a great country rocking sound. The song reminds me of Brad Paisley’s songs “Celebrity” and “Online.” I love clever, funny songs like that, and they make for very funny and entertaining videos.
