Have you heard “If You’re Reading This” sung by Tim Mcgraw? What an incredible song! This is the reason I love music. It has everything. Emotion. Heart. A beautiful melody. Hope. A great voice singing the lyrics. Music, when it is done at its best, can be powerful and unbelievably moving and memorable. Every time I hear this song, I have to listen carefully. It draws me in every single time.
For those of you who haven’t heard it. It’s not a song that is incredibly cheerful but I suppose it could bring a sense of hope and peace to those who have lost a loved one in Iraq or any other war. In the song, McGraw sings from the stand point of a deceased military servicemember who wrote a letter in the case of his impending death that is now in the hands of his mother and his pregnant wife. In the letter he tells his mother that he and God are watching over her, and he tells his wife that he hopes their unborn child fights like him and stands up for the “innocent and the weak,” and also that he knows his wife will move on some day and “that’s OK” because he’s “in a better place” where “Soldiers live in peace and angels sing ‘Amazing Grace.’ “
It was written by McGraw and the Warren Brothers. Listen for it on your local country radio station. You’ll know it when you hear it. Definitely one of the better songs I have heard in a while.
