Blogging about the world of entertainment.

A few people have asked me why I don’t write any blogs about my family anymore. I guess they thought they were pretty funny sometimes and entertaining to read. So, once in a while, I will throw in a personal story in my blog entries. Here’s a good one…

A few months back we realized that when we went outside (esp. at night), there would always be a toad outside our doorstep. Even though she didn’t want to pick it up, Kayla, my 4-year-old daughter, would somehow take comfort in seeing the toad almost every night. She even named it “Tree.” We would always go outside and see Tree sitting there greetings us. It was actually kind of cool. When Tree was gone for a couple days, Kayla would just say that he was on vacation or visiting his mommy and daddy.

A few months back, Kayla had realized that she had not seen Tree for quite a while and was worried about him. I was wondering what happened to him too. My husband called me at work one day and said, “I was outside mowing the grass and you know how we haven’t seen Tree in a while?”…

NOW, I know what you are thinking…that my husband ran over Tree with the mower. Well, no…it’s worse than that.

My husband continued…”Well, I saw something in the driveway.”

I said, “What! Oh no! Don’t tell me.”

My husband said, “Yep. We must have run over him with the car. He is flat as a pancake.”

I felt terrible about it. I killed my baby girl’s pet toad that she found comfort in. But, it really wasn’t my fault. I mean, I don’t get out of the car before I pull in the driveway and make sure I’m not going to run over any small animals or bugs. As long as Kayla isn’t in the driveway, I just pull right in. So, it could have happened to anyone really. But, I sure hate that it happened to me.

We still haven’t told Kayla what happened. She brings Tree up once in a while. And, we just tell her we don’t know what happened to him. Some day we will tell her of course. But, she just doesn’t need to know right now that mommy is a toad killer. A cockroach killer she can handle, but not her precious friend, Tree.
