Monday night Donald and I went out to dinner to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I had always wanted to go to Gourmet Café in downtown Swansboro, so this seemed like the perfect occasion to go. If you have never been there, it is a really great place. It has fantastic food and an awesome view of the White Oak River. We sat out on the patio overlooking the river and it was so nice.

Donald had the chili before dinner and I had a salad. For dinner, Donald got fried shrimp and flounder and I got chicken primavera. We both thought our food was really great. But, the best part of the whole meal for both of us was dessert. I was always told that Gourmet Café has the best cheesecake, so I passed the info on to Donald who loves cheesecake. I, on the other hand, am a huge chocolate lover and noticed something on the menu called the “triple chocolate mousse cake”. All I can say is….wow! I was full but there was no way I was going to let that chocolate dessert go to waste. It was the best chocolate dessert I have ever tasted and they gave me a huge piece too. And Donald gave a rave review of the cheesecake too.

Eating at the restaurant is a little pricey, but I would expect that from a more upper class dining establishment. With the food that we had eaten, plus coffee, a margarita and our sweet teas, altogether the meal cost about $65. That is not bad at all considering both the amount of food we were given and the wonderful taste of it all.

If you are celebrating a special occasion or have a little money to spare and want a nice meal, Gourmet Café is a great place to go. We went on a Monday night so it wasn’t very crowded.
